No. Life Coaches typically rely on personal experiences and beliefs to offer advice without any particular education or training.
Coaching can be thought of as someone using their expertise to teach or guide performance. My expertise is in behavioral, social, and cognitive psychology.
But if we’re being frank.
'Coach' is an unprotected title and so it's variations are about marketing more than anything. My method is one I personally researched and developed which you can learn about here. It adapts from many theories and represents me individually in a way that is largely independent of coaching itself.
Yes.
I'm a Canadian but can work with people all over the world. Coaching sessions are done over video conference (Microsoft Teams) and I process payments via PayPal which accepts cards internationally.
Therapy is better suited for emotional safety and support. That can be especially important when processing difficult experiences or feelings that need a safe place to be expressed. Therapy is also specialized to help with specific disorders.
My coaching is focused on goals, strategies, motivation, and self-awareness. It has tools for both managing mood and anxieties as well optimizing your approach towards an ambitious goal or change.
If you’re ready to openly discuss your situation (confidentially), my coaching teaches skills and offers insight on mental health topics you may associate with therapy. For some, that's a better fit.
If not, my style may feel too confrontational. I don’t act as a licensed mental health professional or use trauma-informed / pathological approaches. I also do not work with high-risk individuals or minors.Significant results can be seen in just two sessions with a plan-and-review that teaches key skills which carry into the future. It can also take several months.
Why is that range so extreme? Because the range of goals and challenges we all face is extreme. Promises like "Get disciplined in 14 days!" are appealing, but irresponsible, and can't be made without knowing your unique situation.
The good news? That doesn’t mean you’ll need an unknown amount of time to make the same progress; it's about seeing progress as building the foundations you’d suffer for trying to skip.
Real ambition is being realistic. Instead of chasing short cuts that cost you down the road, we have the flexibility to find the quickest and most sustainable path to success.
