No. Life Coaches typically rely on personal experiences and opinions to offer advice without any particular expertise or skill set.
'Coaching' is typically when someone uses their expertise to teach skills, educate, or guide performance. My expertise is in behavioral, social, and cognitive psychology. I call my model 'Behavioral Awareness' coaching which you can learn about here.
But if we’re being frank, Coaching is an unregulated profession and so the titles don't tell you much. My method is self-developed, adapts from many theories, and represents me personally in a way that is independent of 'coaching' itself.
Therapy is better suited to offer emotional support. That can be especially important when you're still processing difficult feelings or need a safe place to express them.
My coaching is more focused on goals, skills, strategies, and motivation. It includes tools for managing things like depression as well optimizing your approach towards an ambitious goal or lifestyle change.
If you’re ready to freely share and discuss your situation (in a confidential setting), my coaching helps teach you missing skills and reveal key insights on subjects typically associated with therapy.
If you're not, my style may feel too confrontational even if not intending to be. I don’t act as a licensed mental health professional or use a trauma-informed / pathological approach. I also don't work with high risk individuals or children.Yes. I'm a Canadian but I work with people all over the world. Coaching sessions are done over video conference and I process payments via PayPal which can accept most international cards.
Lasting growth can start in as few as 2 sessions through plan-and-review that is effective and easy to carry into the future. It can also take several months.
Why is that range so extreme?
Because the range of difficulties we all face is extreme. Exploring your goal can reveal related challenges or even that it isn’t what you truly want. ‘Get disciplined in 14 days’ and claims like it simply can't be made without knowing your unique situation.
The good news? That wide range isn't about taking longer to make the same progress - it's about having the flexibility to help you spot and build the foundations you’d otherwise suffer for trying to skip.
